About the Store

Here at Half-Step Beer & Wine we focus on having a thoughtfully curated selection of beer and wine. In beer and wine, what is considered to be the best is a very subjective standard. So, our focus is to provide what we like, personally, as well as to listen to you (the customer) and stock our store accordingly. Many retail beer and wine stores focus on having the most products—walking into these stores can be overwhelming. At Half-Step Beer & Wine we focus on having the best products—determined by our own particular tastes as well as the tastes of our customers.

About the Owner

Half-Step Beer & Wine was started by Norwich, VT resident, Cole Flannery. In the early 2000s, as an 18 and 19 year old, Cole worked as both an apprentice and assistant brewer for several different breweries in the United States—Capitol City Brewing Company in Washington, DC and Snake River Brewing Company in Jackson Hole, WY.

Being known for his foresight, Cole determined that it took a lot of money to be successful in the industry, and that craft beer wasn’t ever going to hit the mainstream. So, he went to law school and joined the Army. After serving in the Army for 6 years and then practicing law in Austin, TX for a while, Cole relocated back to the Upper Valley. Once the opportunity arose to take over the space at 289 Main Street, Cole knew he had to get back to his roots and pursue his passion for craft beer and wine.
